Temporary Problem with Paypal

Hey all: Folks e-mailed me to say that they were having difficulty making a donation on this Blog. I checked it out and it is some kind of glitch with Paypal. I will contact them today to fix the problem. Should you have an overwhelming need to donate right now! you may send a check to Giving Back, Inc., Box 1361, Brattleboro, VT 05301.

Giving Back, Inc. now also has a website at: givebackinc.com.

Thanks,

Rob

Trip Route

Many folks have asked which states we'll be traveling through. Here is a map with a rough idea of our route. We are generally following the Northern Tier Route of the Adventure Cycling Maps, with some variations around the Great Lakes Region. We will also be starting farther west than their route suggests. It doesn't look very far on the map, but it will run just shy of 4400 miles by the time we reach Lubec, Maine in late August.

Here is my new trike (just like Jake's, but newer and red!) with the embroidered headrest that Steve made for me.

Hope all is well. Will blog again soon.      - Rob

Further Preparations & Fundraising

Hey all:

Jake and I are continuing with our prep and training for our trip that starts on June 10th. I thought that doing 1 - 1 1/2 hours a day on a recumbent exercise bike and my trike on a trainer indoors would be sufficient as a beginning to our training regimen. WRONG! Once I got my new trike on the road (after the snow finally left our part of the world) and went a scant 12 miles, I confided to my wife that we were out of our F**king minds to think that we could make it across the country on these contraptions. The second day was better, but I still think that we have a long way to go before heading out on out 70+ mile a day trek across country.

So, I now have my new trike, also a Catrike Expedition, and we are beginning to outfit them both with panniers and other gear. Steve Sussman just made me a great  neck rest with "Giving Back Tour 2011" embroidered on it (picture to follow). Thanks Steve!

In addition to the trip prep, we are ramping up the fundraising part of the trip. Letters are going out, posters are being hung, and the media is being contacted in an effort to bring in donations to support children with autism and their families. We are asking that anyone who believes  that this is a worthy cause donate whatever they can - and encourage families, friends, and businesses to add their support, as well. We will be really bummed if we spend a lot of money for this trip - and - pedal nearly 4500 miles, only to collect $200 in donations.

We hope that everyone will follow this blog as we travel cross-country and show up on the route if you happen to live somewhere along the way. If you know anyone who lives along the Northern Tier Route (of the Adventure Cycling Association) who might want to put us up as we travel through, please let us know.

We are so excited about this adventure and hope that you all will support us in whatever way you can.

Look for more blogs soon.

Peace,

Rob
